Applying for state medical aid (AME)

This health cover is aimed at foreign nationals in an irregular and precarious situation. To qualify, you must be able to prove your identity, have been living in France for at least 3 months and have resources that do not exceed a certain threshold.

How do you go about it?

To apply for state medical aid (AME) : 

  • For a first application, go directly to the reception desk of the Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie (CPAM) in their place of residence to submit their application. People with reduced mobility, unaccompanied minors and people under curatorship or guardianship may send their application directly to their health insurance organisation, provided they have the necessary supporting documents.
  • For renewal, send directly to its health insurance organisation or submit its file to a France Services structure or the file from a communal or inter-communal social action centre OR from the health and social services in your place of residence OR from associations or non-profit organisations approved for this purpose (check with the service before sending)

Application form for state medical aid (AME) (available from your Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie (CPAM) or you can fill it in on your computer before printing it out)

Deadlines

The response to this request for assistance is made no later than 2 months after the application is submitted. If no response is received after this time, the application is refused.
