«He who fights may lose, but he who does not fight has already lost...». Bertolt Brecht (German poet and playwright, 1898/1956)
As we enter the traditional festive season in just a few weeks' time, it's hard to reconcile all this with the current events and the day-to-day battles we intend to wage for and with you.
So, while we talk about the proximity of a happy, warm and united period, how can we make what is commonly known as the «confectioners» truce" coincide in our minds with all the most disastrous and inhuman situations we are experiencing in France and around the world?.
Indeed, what about the situation in Ukraine and Palestine, not to mention other conflicts around the globe, because we are only at the beginning of a long road ahead to imagine a dignified and just end to these abominations for all.
What's more, what about the institutional political situation in France, with this contempt for the people, and a government and a President of the Republic deaf to their expectations and hopes?.
More than ever, let's stay mobilised and speak out to advance justice and solidarity.
I wish you all a very happy festive season, and look forward to meeting your elected representatives at the neighbourhood meetings that started on 22 October.

The world of sport, often perceived as a neutral or apolitical space, finds itself in the midst of a moral tug-of-war over the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
This conflict affects the fundamental aspects of sport: ethics, human rights, justice and international solidarity.
The destruction of civilian and sports facilities, and the mass deaths of athletes and children, reinforce the calls for an international stance.
Players, clubs, supporters and some well-known athletes are publicly denouncing the situation. Some teams have even refused to play against Israel.
Sport is no longer a refuge from politics, and the question is no longer just : Has sport remained neutral?
But rather:
Can we remain neutral in the face of injustice, including in sport?
The IOC, FIFA and UEFA have not suspended Israel on the grounds of political neutrality. Russia's exclusion from the Olympic Games, following the invasion of Ukraine, raises the question of the coherence and moral legitimacy of sporting institutions?
Our elected representatives approved a motion at the town council meeting, reaffirming that a lasting peace in the Middle East can only be built on the basis of 2 states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in security and mutual recognition.

Montataire en commun

Who will foot the bill? Certainly not the richest.

The reappointment of S. Lecornu and the government's lack of censure show that our political class remains deaf to the aspirations of the French.
The 1er The French Prime Minister is promising to suspend pension reform in order to stay in power, while at the same time demanding an additional effort from local authorities to restore public finances. An effort of 4.7 billion euros has been requested, but in reality it would be more like 9 billion.
In practical terms, how will this affect the budgets of our local authorities and départements? At municipal level, property tax is now the only tax lever. In Montataire, it is already particularly high.

There is a desperate attempt to shift the burden of austerity onto local areas, even though they are not at the root of the problem.
This is due to insufficient government revenue. So we need to find the money where it is. But we still refuse to tax the richest people or the super-profits of CAC 40 companies. In these circumstances, the only short-term solution is to dissolve the government so that the French people can make a clear decision.

Let's wake up Montataire together!

Reopening of the Allée des Marronniers

For over 9 months, the allée des Marronniers has been closed to traffic following the collapse of its retaining wall. Since January, Montataire town centre has been transformed into a giant traffic jam morning, noon and night, whether it's avenue Guy Moquet, rue de Condé or avenue de la Libération, or any number of other streets.
Was the felling of the many chestnut trees on this road one of the causes of the collapse?

Why has it taken so long to take action? Immediate solutions could have been put in place, such as reversing the centre of traffic flow on certain streets.
so as not to concentrate all the vehicles on a single route. Then, in February, we had to work with the Akzo and Goss companies to set up a diversion using the side road that runs alongside the railway line between Montataire station and Arcelor (RD 200) in order to relieve traffic congestion in the centre of Montataire.
The good news is that work on the allée des Marronniers finally got under way on 27 October and will be completed on 19 January 2026!

Working together for Montataire

November, a month of commemoration for our illustrious dead and of international solidarity.

On 10 October 2025, we inaugurated rue Arlette Libert and the Marcel Marc residence in recognition of their services to the town. To mark the occasion, we received a number of testimonials from their families, testifying to the work carried out by these illustrious figures in our conurbation. We would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Romeu di Lurdes, a comrade who promised me in Paris last August that he would be with us for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately, he passed away on 9 October in Lisbon. We are awaiting the tribute that the nation will pay to him in the near future, as recommended by the Cape Verdean government.

Kind regards

Manuel Varela
