Commemoration - End of the Algerian war

The town of Montataire, in collaboration with patriotic associations, is organising a commemoration ceremony to mark the 63rd anniversary of the war.e anniversary of the end of the Algerian war. This event will take place on Wednesday 19 March 2025 and will be an opportunity to honour the memory of the victims and to recall the importance of the duty of remembrance.

The ceremony will begin at 6pm with a gathering in front of the Edmond Léveillé school. There will then be a procession to the Monument aux Morts in Place de la Mairie. Several highlights will mark this moment of remembrance: the laying of wreaths, the playing of the Last Post, a minute's silence, a speech by the Mayor, Jean-Pierre Bosino, and a speech by the representative of the AFN veterans. The Marseillaise will bring this first part of the commemoration to a close.

The procession will then continue to the stele in the Square Pierre et Léa Léger, where a second ceremony will take place. This will be marked by a new tribute with the laying of wreaths, the calling out of the names of the dead and a moment of recollection.

At the end of the ceremony, a vin d'honneur will be offered in the basement B of the Town Hall.

The municipality invites all residents to join in this event to honour the memory of the combatants and victims of the Algerian War. This solemn occasion is an opportunity to pass on history and to remember the values of peace and fraternity.
