The contract signed must also comply with a number of provisions laid down by law (withdrawal period, quotation, terms of payment) in order to be considered valid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\"><strong>Fake\u00ab direct marketers<\/strong>\u00a0use the pretext of going door-to-door to break into your home in order to scout it for a\u00a0<strong>burglary<\/strong>\u00a0or steal small valuables. They usually operate in pairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The right gestures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If a canvasser turns up at your door, a few simple steps are all it takes.<strong>\u00a0good habits<\/strong>\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">\u00a0If you can,<strong>\u00a0check the number of people present<\/strong>\u00a0before opening the door (via the videophone or peephole).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">\u00a0Demand the\u00a0<strong>presentation of a professional card<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">\u00a0Do not\u00a0<strong>don't sign anything until you have the estimate in hand<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">\u00a0Do not<strong>\u00a0do not pay any money or sign any cheques<\/strong>, above all\u00a0<strong>backdated<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">\u00a0If in doubt, suggest a<strong>\u2018call the professional body<\/strong>\u00a0to which the direct seller is attached.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">\u00a0<strong>If the seller is insistent or threatening, call us immediately on\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"tel:17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">17<\/a>\u00a0to involve the police or gendarmerie.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Abuse of weakness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">L'<strong>abuse of weakness\u00a0<\/strong>is the act of selling a product or getting someone to sign an estimate by taking advantage of their ignorance or physical or mental weakness. The seller is aware of the person's vulnerability and may go so far as to exert repeated pressure to manipulate the victim in order to obtain his or her consent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">Have you or someone close to you been the victim of fraudulent canvassing leading to abuse of weakness? There are remedies available to contest and cancel the contracts taken out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">You can also file a complaint with the police station or gendarmerie of your choice.
