Book Festival

The town of Montataire will be transformed into a veritable temple of books from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 June 2025. For the Book festival Schools, libraries and the Château are opening their doors to literature.

Meetings with authors, introductory reading sessions for the very young, discoveries with illustrators : there's something for all ages.

Drawing competition

Get your pencils ready for the traditional drawing competition, with this year's theme : "Draw your superhero.

Imagine your superhero, give him a name and superpowers. Let your imagination run wild.

The superheroes selected will be used as new bookmarks in the libraries.
And there are vouchers to be won at the Le Verbe et l'Objet bookshop.

Terms and conditions :

  • The competition is open to everyone.
  • Productions should be returned to the library.
  • Drawings must be submitted by 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday 11 June at the latest.

Wednesday 11th June

Elsa Triolet Library

10h : BB-library dedicated to children's authors (0-5 years)

2pm to 5pm: Special manga day, creative workshop and introduction to character design with the collective Bulles d'Ox

2pm and 4.30pm : Children's writing workshops run by the library team

16h : Complimentary snack

Paul Éluard Library

17h30 : opening speech, competition awards ceremony and cocktail

18h30 : street show (30 min - general public)

Thursday 12 June

Elsa Triolet Library

7 to 8.30pm: Conference by Vincent Jarousseaujournalist, discusses his latest book: "Dans les âmes et les urnes - Dix ans à la rencontre de la France qui vote RN" ("In the souls and the ballot boxes - Ten years tracking the France that votes NR").

Libraries and schools

All day long : school meetings with the authors.

Château de Montataire

1.30 pm to 6 pm :

  • Book signings and sales in the presence of guest authors
  • Presence of the editions At Contresens and militant publishing Le Temps des Cerises
  • Book sales by the community bookshop seed of words
  • Artistic and creative activities
  • Graphics workshop
  • Balloon sculpture and face painting workshop
  • School stands

16h : Family tea party

Cour d'honneur du Château

15h : Conference on the ordinary logic of feminicide with the novel "Une désarmée des morts". from Jean-Michel Devésa. Followed by a debate with the author, a member of the association Women in Solidarity and the public. (book signing at the end)

16h30 : Conference around the work of Jadd Hilala French-Palestinian-Lebanese writer. In it, he explores family memories, multiple identities and the legacies of exile through intimate stories often told by female voices.
In partnership with Montataire-Dheisheh Twinning Committee.

18h : closing drink and speeches

Wednesday 4 June - Cinema

14h30 : session Ciné-mioches with the animated film "The Castle in the Sky" by Hayao Miyazaki.

From 4 to 30 June: exhibitions in libraries

A double exhibition focusing on comics:

"Superheroes
From Marvel to DC, from Stan Lee to Frank Miller, discover the history of superheroes, their great eras and iconic authors.
Exhibition designed by Xavier Fournier including a game booklet.

"By the power of manga!"
Explore the world of manga, long regarded as a subculture but now enjoying full recognition. Heir to Japanese traditions, manga is part of a teeming culture from which it draws its inspiration and which it influences in return.
